Obviously, one of the most important parts of beach fashion is your swimwear. So before you do anything else, you need to think about the type that you’d like to wear this year. It can be hard getting your swimwear just right. Especially as a lot of the time, there are areas of our bodies that we’d rather not draw attention to.

The most important thing when it comes to selecting beachwear is to ensure that whatever you pick, you feel confident in. If you’re not sure what style of swimsuit would look best on you, try a few on and find out. With swimwear, it’s a case of trial and error, so don’t be afraid to try a few different styles and cuts on.

Let’s talk beach hair. While some of us are lucky enough to have hair that curls at the first hint of sea salt, others of us end up with matted hair. Salt water doesn’t agree with all hair types, so if your hair and seawater don’t mix, it’s best to wear it in an updo. A cute low ponytail, a messy bun or a plait are all perfect beach hairstyles, as they’ll keep your hair neat and tidy all day long.

As for your makeup, getting beach makeup right can be tricky. You probably want to look beautifully fresh-faced, but not as if you’re not wearing any makeup. After all, shiny, red skin is not attractive, even at the beach. Aim to use your makeup to give your skin a natural glow – primer, BB cream, setting powder and bronzer are all you’ll need. For your eyes, go subtly nude with the eyeshadow. And then use a brown pencil liner to create a natural looking line, and a small amount of mascara to highlight your lashes. (If you plan on splashing around in the sea, it’s best to use waterproof everything.)

When it comes to beach accessories, it’s important to be choosy. Obviously, chic shoes, a cover-up of some sort and a hat are all must-haves, but what else do you need? Style experts suggest that to look and feel good on the beach, some cute pieces of jewellery are ideal. Small hoop earrings work well on the beach, along with rope bracelets, stylish anklets, and toe rings. If you’ve got your navel pierced, an elegant belly bar from Piercing Mania could also look great.

Slim down with tan and shimmer

Is your body not quite as toned or slim as you’d like it to be? Don’t let that stop you from feeling confident on the beach, as you can easily slim down with some smart contouring. If you’re not an experienced fake tanner, don’t attempt to do your tan yourself. Instead, make an appointment to get a professional spray tan. Beauticians know exactly how to tan you, to make your body look more toned. So make sure to mention that this is the effect you want.

As well as getting a spray tan, learn how to use body shimmer – aka highlighter, to make your body appear even slimmer. The best way to make your legs and arms appear slimmer is by using highlighting powder to accentuate your bone structure. Don’t make the mistake of using a facial highlighter. If you want to contour your body, make sure to use a body highlighter. For all the best tips and tricks, check out this YouTube tutorial.
