The Essential First Steps of Planning an Event

Drawing Up a Guest List

You might not create a complete guest list straight away. There’s a lot of work to do before you confirm who is and isn’t coming. But you do need to have an idea of numbers and who you’re going to invite. In some instances, there might be some etiquette rules you’re expected to follow. However, whether you stick to them or not is up to you. For example, you might think that if you were invited to someone’s wedding, you should invite them to yours. But if you’re trying to keep things small, it’s hard to work that way. If you’re throwing a party for someone else, think carefully about who they would want there.

Finding a Venue

Choosing the right venue for your event is one of the most important parts. Without a venue, there won’t be an event. The first thing you need to consider is numbers, which is why it’s a good idea to come up with a rough guest list. The amount of people you invite will affect your venue choices. You then need to decide how formal or informal you want the event to be. A birthday party could be at a local pub, but you might wish to use a hotel for a charity event. Venues like Adlington Hall will give you lots of help with planning a wedding or other event. You should talk to them about the services they offer and the rooms you can use.

Food, Drink, Entertainment

At most social events, you’re going to want some food and beverages. It might be a five-course meal, or it could just be drinks and canapes. However much you wish to provide, your guests will be expecting something. You need to consider how your event will be catered. It’s likely the venue will have a bar, so you might choose to use it. They might also be able to serve food, but you could also use an external catering company. You can even make the food yourself or have guests bring it. Don’t forget to consider some entertainment too. It could be anything from music to comedy or even an auction.

You have to put a lot of work into planning an event, but it’s worth it in the end. If you find the right venue, they can help you all the way.
