Your Guide to Choosing the Best Wedding Photographer

Wedding planning can take so long because there’s a lot for you to do. Every decision requires careful consideration, and some of them can take longer than you might think. The choice of wedding photographer is often one of the most important for many couples. Their job is to capture some memorable moments throughout the day, so they need to be good. But there seem to be so many to choose from, and you might be unsure of even how much money to spend. Try using these tips to help you look for the best wedding photographer for your day.

Choose a Style

Before you create a shortlist of wedding photographers, consider the different styles available. It will help you narrow down your choices so that you won’t be quite so overwhelmed. There are a few different styles to choose from, depending on your requirements. Traditional wedding photography focuses on classic portraits. Think of what you would see in your parents’ or grandparents’ wedding pictures. You could also use a documentary photographer, who will take candid photos throughout the day. There’s also the option of more contemporary portraits or using a style closer to fine art.

Research

If you have an idea of the style you have, it’s time to do some work. You can start searching for wedding photographers and looking at reviews. A good place to start is on a photographer’s website, where you can see some of their work. Have a look at www.weddingsbyjp.co.uk to see an example of the information you can expect to find. They should have a gallery of images and some information about their style and rates. Don’t forget to check other sources, though, such as review sites where their service is listed. You need to find out what experiences other couples have had.

Talk to Photographers

Meeting up with the photographer is a must. You can discuss things in person and decide whether you would get along. It wouldn’t be a good idea to hire someone if your personalities don’t mesh, even if you love their work. Take some questions to ask so that you can get the information you need. It’s also a good idea to ask to see at least one full wedding album. The photos on their website will have been carefully selected, and won’t necessarily represent all their work. You can get a better idea if you’re able to scrutinise a full set of photos instead of a cherry-picked few.

Look at Different Packages

Don’t forget to look at the various packages that photographers have available. You might have already set a budget, so you need to know what you can get for your money. Different photographers will price their services in differing ways. You might be able to choose to have them for half a day or a full day and perhaps receive a set number of photos. Remember to check what the copyright is on the photos too.

There isn’t one excellent photographer who will suit everyone. So take your time selecting someone who’s a good fit for you.
